A Negative of Day

Pale white sky with
Clouds of blue iron-grey,
Lit up by sun from underneath;
A negative of day.

I wish I had a camera
Big enough to catch
This view I see before me
Which takes away my breath.

A photo that could capture
All this magnitude. Not
Only vista stretched before,
But change wrought in my attitude.

A picture that could show you
The songs inside my head
That play in all this solitude
As I lay me down to bed.

I do not have a snapshot
Big enough to hold
All the glory I see here.
So I’ll just use my words:

Pale white sky with
Clouds of blue iron-grey,
Lit up by sun from underneath;
Negative of happy day.
